विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग (डी. एस. टी.) ने भारतीय राष्ट्रीय अभियांत्रिकी अकादमी (आई. एन. ए. ई.) के सहयोग से वर्ष 2017 में "अब्दुल कलाम प्रौद्योगिकी नवाचार राष्ट्रीय अध्येतावृत्ति" नामक एक अध्येतावृत्ति की शुरुआत की, ताकि देश में सार्वजनिक वित्त पोषित संस्थानों में काम करने वाले भारतीय नागरिकों द्वारा अभियांत्रिकी में अनुवादात्मक अनुसंधान को मान्यता, प्रोत्साहन, समर्थन और बढ़ावा दिया जा सके, ताकि व्यवहार्य तकनीकी उत्पादों/उपकरणों/घटकों/प्रक्रियाओं में मौलिक अनुसंधान आउटपुट को स्थानांतरित किया जा सके। संक्षेप में, फेलोशिप का प्रमुख उद्देश्य इंजीनियरिंग, नवाचार और प्रौद्योगिकी विकास में उत्कृष्टता प्राप्त करना है। इस फेलोशिप योजना का नाम भारत के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति स्वर्गीय डॉ. ए. पी. जे. अब्दुल कलाम के नाम पर रखा गया है, जो भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी विकास और आत्मनिर्भरता में एक आदर्श थे। यह योजना विज्ञान और इंजीनियरिंग अनुसंधान बोर्ड (एस. ई. आर. बी.) द्वारा प्रशासित की जा रही है और भारतीय राष्ट्रीय इंजीनियरिंग अकादमी (आई. एन. ए. ई.) द्वारा कार्यान्वित की जा रही है। इस फेलोशिप में इंजीनियरिंग, नवाचार और प्रौद्योगिकी के सभी क्षेत्रों को शामिल किया गया है। अवधिः फेलोशिप की अवधि शुरू में तीन साल होगी, जिसे प्रदर्शन के आधार पर दो साल तक बढ़ाया जा सकता है। फेलोशिप अधिकतम 5 वर्षों के लिए आयोजित की जा सकती है। अपेक्षित परिणामः यह अध्येतावृत्ति केवल संभावित व्यावसायीकृत या तैनात करने योग्य प्रौद्योगिकी; प्रायोगिक पैमाने या क्षेत्र परीक्षण योग्य प्रौद्योगिकी; पेटेंट (दाखिल/बेचा/व्यावसायीकृत); प्रदर्शन और परीक्षण के लिए कार्यशील मॉडल या प्रोटोटाइप (इसके अलावा लेकिन केवल वैज्ञानिक प्रकाशन तक ही सीमित नहीं) के लिए अनुवाद अनुसंधान के लिए लागू है। अध्येतावृत्तिः प्रति वर्ष अधिकतम 10 अध्येतावृत्ति प्रदान की जाएंगी।

The scheme is applicable to Indian nationals as well as Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) working in permanent positions in engineering profession in public funded institutions in India. The applicant should possess adequate professional qualification and hold at least a bachelor's degree This applicant should have a minimum of five (5) years of service left in the parent organization as on the date of the award. The applicant should not be holding any other fellowship and in the event of selection, he/she will have to opt for only one of the fellowships.
