"बीजू पटनायक वीरता पुरस्कार" का शुभारंभ ओडिशा सरकार के खेल और युवा सेवा विभाग द्वारा ओडिशा के लोगों द्वारा किए गए वीरता के शानदार कार्यों को मान्यता देने के लिए किया गया था। यह पुरस्कार ओडिशा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री स्वर्गीय बीजू पटनायक की सेवा के उपलक्ष्य में प्रदान किया गया था, जिन्होंने अपने जीवनकाल में भारत के युवाओं को प्रेरित करने वाले कई वीरतापूर्ण कार्य किए थे। यह पुरस्कार बहादुरी के सबसे उत्कृष्ट कार्य के लिए प्रतिवर्ष दिया जाता है।
1. पुरस्कार में ₹ 1,00,000-का नकद पुरस्कार, एक रजत पदक और एक स्क्रॉल शामिल होगा। 1. पुरस्कार विजेता को व्यक्तिगत रूप से पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने के लिए आमंत्रित किया जाएगा। पुरस्कार विजेता को प्रथम श्रेणी के रेल/बस किराए की दर से टी. ए./डी. ए. दिया जाएगा और भुवनेश्वर में उसके ठहरने की व्यवस्था विभाग द्वारा की जाएगी। * * टिप्पणी 1: * * किसी भी रूप में पुरस्कार के लिए प्रचार करना निषिद्ध है। * * टिप्पणी 02: * * यह पुरस्कार मरणोपरांत पुरस्कार विजेता के निकट संबंधियों को भी दिया जा सकता है। * * टिप्पणी 3: * * बहादुरी के चयनित कार्य में एक से अधिक व्यक्तियों की भागीदारी के मामले में, पुरस्कार की राशि सभी के बीच साझा की जाएगी। * * नोट 04: * * यह खेल विभाग और वाई. एस. पर बाध्यकारी नहीं होगा। हर साल पुरस्कार प्रदान करना। पुरस्कार के लिए उपयुक्त व्यक्तियों की अनुपलब्धता के मामले में, पुरस्कार संबंधित वर्ष के लिए प्रदान नहीं किया जाएगा।

Advertisement for the award shall be uploaded every year in January on the Department Website with a prescribed application format which will be also available in the office of District Collector & DSO, Supdt. of Police, NYKS, NSS, BSG, NCC, IRCS & Sports & Youth Services Department.

The nominations can be sent by the Collector, Supdt. of Police, DSO, NYKS, NSS, BSG, the person himself/herself, any registered Voluntary Organization, NCC & Indian Red-Cross Society (State or Central Branch) to the Secretary, Odisha State Youth Welfare Board, C-1, Nayapalli, Unit-8, Bhubaneswar. Note 01: Department of Sports & Youth Services/can also suo motu nominate names for the award. Note 02: The application form and all supporting documents must be ‘self-attested’ by the applicant i.e., there is no need for attestation by any Gazetted Officer. > Scrutiny & Selection: - Scrutiny and selection will be done by a three-member Committee chaired by Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Sports & Youth Services Department with Asst. Director, Y.S. and AFA-cum-Under-Secretary of the Department as members. - Recommendation of the Committee will be sent to Hon'ble Minister, Sports & Youth Services for Government approval. > Timelines for the Award: - Invitation of application/nomination through issue of advertisement: by 31st January - Last date for receipt of application/nomination: by 31st March - Scrutiny & selection: by 31st May - Award Ceremony: by 29th August (National Sports Day)
