बिहार राज्य अल्पसंख्यक आवासीय विद्यालय योजना की शुरुआत बिहार सरकार के अल्पसंख्यक कल्याण विभाग द्वारा की गई थी। इस योजना का उद्देश्य राज्य में अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के मेधावी छात्रों को गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षा प्रदान करना और आवासीय विद्यालयों में उनके सर्वांगीण विकास को बढ़ावा देते हुए उन्हें मानसिक, शारीरिक, सामाजिक और भावनात्मक रूप से सक्षम बनाना है। इस योजना के तहत अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के छात्रों को आवासीय विद्यालयों में कक्षा 9 से कक्षा 12 तक मुफ्त शिक्षा मिलेगी। यह विद्यालय सह-शिक्षा प्रणाली पर आधारित है। इन विद्यालयों में 50 प्रतिशत सीटें लड़कियों के लिए और 75 प्रतिशत सीटें लड़कों और लड़कियों दोनों के लिए ग्रामीण छात्रों के लिए आरक्षित की जाएंगी।
इस योजना के तहत आवासीय विद्यालयों में नामांकित अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के छात्रों को निम्नलिखित लाभ प्राप्त होंगेः - 9वीं से 12वीं कक्षा तक मुफ्त शिक्षा-मुफ्त नामांकन/प्रवेश के साथ-साथ भोजन, कपड़े, दवा और किताबों सहित मुफ्त आवास का प्रावधान।-अच्छी तरह से सुसज्जित आधुनिक प्रयोगशालाओं तक पहुंच।-उच्च माध्यमिक (इंटरमीडिएट) स्तर पर पीसीएम (भौतिकी, रसायन विज्ञान, गणित), पी. सी. बी. (भौतिकी, रसायन विज्ञान, जीव विज्ञान), कला आदि जैसे विषयों का अध्ययन करने की सुविधा।-स्कूल के भीतर विशेष कोचिंग और व्यावसायिक प्रशिक्षण का प्रावधान।
